Often times rental contracts look great – no repair prices, low install fee, quick service; but if you start reading the fine print, often times these rental contracts get a little scary. The big rental companies offer things like minimum rental periods, annual price increases on January 1st (even if it was installed late in the year), possible property liens, large buyouts or cancellation fees and more, so what seems like a great deal to start with becomes an expensive nightmare. And, because they use subcontractors to do their service work, you may not get the same technician, let alone company performing service on your equipment visit to visit.
Make your home comfort and hot water system work for you, not for the rental company. If you are wanting to rent, check with local companies and see if they have any options available, and ask what their fine print says.
For example, we don’t impose annual price increases, so the price you pay at the start of the rental is what you pay at the end. Do they charge for removal or pick up? We don’t, but some of the larger companies charge $125 for removal or $65-125 for pick up.
Is their buyout schedule easy to understand? Some companies provide buyout schedules, we advise customers of their original buyout and the amount that it will reduce on each payment.
If you’d like to stay away from renting, but like the idea of no repair costs, ask about extended parts and labour warranty options. For furnaces and air conditioners, we offer the Clarity program, which offers a 12 year parts and labour warranty and is available with low monthly payments.
Control your basement, don’t be controlled by a large rental company. Find solutions that will work for your budget, your family and keep you warm.
