Fixing the Problem Areas

Whether your home is older with drafts or has been renovated without air flow considerations, it is possible that you have a room or area that is never comfortable. It is either too hot during the summer, won’t heat up during the winter, or both; making it only usable or comfortable during the shoulder seasons.
There are a couple solutions to make these rooms more comfortable.

1 – Duct modifications.
If your home has an existing duct system, there are a couple options that could make a big difference. If your furnace will accommodate it, running an additional heat run to the area can be a great option. This is ideal if the basement isn’t finished – it makes it an easier install and less clean up required.

2 – Dampers in ductwork.

If you have sufficient duct runs to the room, an inexpensive solution is to install dampers in all of your duct runs, and adjust air flow to different areas of your home. This will decrease the air to areas over served and increase where it is currently under served. It can also be easily adjusted as required.

3 – Fireplace
Fireplaces are great for ambiance and make any room cozier. They are also great source of heat. If you have a room that duct modifications won’t satisfy the heat needs or you don’t have duct work to modify, a fireplace may be the solution.

4 – Wall Furnaces
If you’re looking for something similar to a fireplace, but don’t care about the ambiance, a wall furnace is a great solution. With sizing options that work for a variety of solutions, this could be the heat option for you.

5 – Ductless Heat Pump
This is a great solution for an area that has heating and cooling issues, especially if there is no duct work. Available in a variety of sizes, efficiency ratings, and low temperature capabilities, a ductless unit is flexible enough for your situations.

6 – Ceiling Fan
While this won’t heat or cool a room, it will create air flow that potentially can make a room more comfortable. Adjusting the rotation direction depending on the season will keep air circulating and pushing hot or cold air down.
