What should you do when you get home and are welcomed by the smell of natural gas?
If the gas smell is indoors:
First thing you should do, is get out of the house. Don’t touch any switches, appliances, phones, thermostats or remotes. Just get out of your house and leave the door open to allow for ventilation.
Once you are a safe distance from your home, call your gas provider from a Cell Phone or a neighbour’s home.
The gas provider may tell you to call 9-1-1 or may do so on your behalf.
Wait for the all clear before you re-enter your home.
If the gas smell is outside:
Evacuate the area. Call the gas provider from a safe distance away. Do not start any vehicles in the area of the leak/smell.
In both cases, do not light any matches or lighters.
