Air conditioning season is coming. Really, it is. Be ready for it by getting your unit prepped before you need it.
There are a couple things you can do while completing yard work.
1. Remove any covers that were put on unit for winter
2. Clear any leaves or debris from around the outside of the unit
3. Switch the disconnect to on (the little grey box on your wall near the outside unit
While working inside your home, make sure you check:
1. Thermostat batteries – if not hard wired
2. Check filter and replace if necessary
3. Turn off humidifier (if you have one)
Some homes have dampers to restrict air flow into basement for warmer months, if you do and they are manual, this would be the time to change the settings.
Manufacturers recommend having annual service on your unit by a refrigeration professional. This will allow for the refrigerant pressures to be tested, your furnace fan speed adjusted, and temperatures to be tested. The technician will check the defrost operation and fan operation on the outside unit.
Now your unit should be ready for summer. All you will have to do is turn your air conditioner to cool and if desired turn your fan from auto to on.
